Access is limited – you’ll need a good 4WD and hiking shoes – but the gorge country near Strathbogie is home to Murray Cod in good numbers and is well worth the trip.
We made a long weekend of it in January, during the wet season although infrequent showers hadn’t affected the water level too much, and arrived at lunchtime. It was far too hot to start fishing but we couldn’t help ourselves and even in the hottest part of the day we were well rewarded with some good sized fish.
